New book

This is the catalogue we designed for the exhibition “Growing up in the richest country in the world” at the Norwegian Children’s Museum, but the book is also relevant if you work with children, are a parent, are involved in after-school activities for children or if you are a young person yourself. The book is about people in your class, and your neighbours. The people that you meet every day. With this exhibition the museum wants to raise awareness around the challenges associated with childhood in low-income families. When the exhibition was made, we defined kids aged 12 and up as the target group, but now we see that the stories also appeal to younger kids. Social differences in Norway are increasing, with the number of children growing up in low-income families more than trebling between 2001 and 2018. The figure continues to rise, and on average, more than two children in each school class grow up in a family with little money. If you are curious about what “low-income family” means in Norway today, what these children’s lives are like and how you can help make things easier for them, then this is the book for you. In this book we take you behind the scenes to show you how the museum worked to make the invisible visible. The book is therefore also aimed at people who work in either museums or other sectors who are interested in methods to bring forth more voices, a broader representativity and greater diversity in research, management and dissemination.
